With the advent of automobiles, more people are injured. Some even die. It is not easy to find people who have not been involved in auto accident, even with the most careful driver.  The injury can be slight. But most frequently, significant injury to the neck is a consequences.

One pecurior thing about such injury is that the victim might only feel slight discomfort initially. However, the discomfort start to grow days latter. the main symptoms are neck and shoulder tension and discomfort, some could also have headache. Depends on the severity and the individual health condition. Such discomfort might subsides or might not.

Most common, these people will be radiographed for integrity of cervical spines followed with a length time of physical therapy. Some would get chiro adjustment. For many people, the discomfort might be reduced. Many would turned to chronic problem that last for many years. This is unfortunate because acupuncture is very effective in treating such problem. I have resolve people who carried such chronic condition for ten to twenty years. The person is ether living with the discomfort because “nothing worked ” for them. Or they can endure neck, shoulder, rotator cuff problem without understanding that the whiplash was the main reason for their suffering.

It surprise me to see how many people suffer from the neck and shoulder problems. In my own practice or in the school clinic  where I teach, more common than not, the patients invariably have neck and shoulder problems. These includes auto accidents injury, stress, computer uses(which is like every body), migraine patients, elderly, sports injury. Not to mention patients who suffer from fibromyalgia or patients who just under the cold spell.

Acupuncture is amazingly effective in treating such problems. You can literally watch the pain disappear and the range of motion improves. This is no surprise. We know that the most authoritative text of Traditional Chinese Medicine is Yellow Emperor Cannon( Huang Di Internal Classic, published in about 100 B.C.) . It consists two volumes, one called Su Wen, or Essential questions , the other is called Ling Shu.  Ling Shu literally means magical pivot. This volume is about acupuncture. It implied that acupuncture therapy is like looking for the magical pivot point to rid body of illness. With right choice the effect is instantaneous.

Joy of teaching

Teaching is an interesting undertaking. Especially when the student group click.  It seems each class has it is character. Sometimes it is very enjoyable. Sometimes, it is kind of stuffy. Since I don’t think my teaching style varies much from class to class. I can only attribute such variation to the Qi of people.Some good Qi and some tough Qi.

These pictures were from one of the school clinic shift that I taught. We have a lots fun during the school. It is intersting that in the 15 weeks period, three students suffered sport related injury. This gave me opportunity to show them how to treat these conditions. Such situation is the best environment to learn.
